Farrier F 40
Ferrari f 40: -
Some say it is the best of all time others say it is the
best of the last generation, whatever you think it is certainly in the race for
the greatest car ever built.
This stunning piece of art is called the Ferrari F 40, and
today I will tell you why it is one of the greatest cars in history and why so
many people hold it so close to their hearts.
A total of 1315 cars were built from 1987 to 1992 and it was
built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ferrari, hence the name
“f-40”. Of the 1315 units built only 213
were built for the US market.
Now let see what makes the Ferrari F 40 one of the most recognizable
cars. The iconic back wing which has the “F-40” logo on it, but only on one
side so that it always points forward and the sharp and tapered front hood of
the car. As well as the open engine cover and all the distant air intakes from
the hood to the side skirts of the car is what make it the best looking drivers
car. Let’s talk about its exterior for
another second ,the F 40 has so many cool features like the locks for the hood
and the engine cover , which requires at least 2 people to open and close, as
well as the locks on the fuel caps of which there are 2 one on each side and even
the locks for the wheels . The wheels are also amazing on this car they are
very wide and very expensive to replace in cases of any puncture ,the wheels
also give an illusion that they are held in place by just a pin but actually
held by single lug nuts which was only used for race cars back in the day . Evan
the headlights on this car are absolute bountifully designed and are engineered
to perfection with the pop-up headlights. the Ferrari F 40 also comes with 3
keys used to open all the parts like the previously mentioned hood, engine
cover, fuel caps and doors.
When you open hood it is only held by 2 strings which I am
not going to lie is very scary and when the back engine cover is open it is the
whole back part of the car, all of it is just lifted when you open it you can
see the wheels, you will be standing inside the car. Also, the back cover if
not held properly will fall on the roof, also to attach it one must lock it in
place marked by 2 metal teeth on each side.
The paint on the car is also very thin from factory to reduce
weight this is also a way for experts to figure out weather it has been
repainted. Also, because the paint is so thin one can see the weave patterns.
The car is made up of bonded Kevlar and lots of carbon fiber which is used to
save weight.
Evan in the interior a lot of exposed carbon is present to reduce
weight even the door handle is just a string to pull on. The same with the
pockets which are used to store stuff, these pockets in the center console are
used because there is no glove box in the f 40. There is no power steering, no
power windows, no light in the interior but there is a mirror in the wiser. There
are only a few dials in the car no radio or any kind of infotainment system.
Thanks to all of this weight saving the Ferrari f 40 weights
around 2500-3000 lb or 1200-1300 kg
Let’s talk numbers and power: -
The f 40 has a 2.9 liters twin turbo v 8 producing 471 hours
power with 426 lb-feet of torque with 0 – 60 mph at a mind-bending speed of 4.2
sec
The history of the Ferrari f 40: -
In 1984 the 288 gto was built then some changes in the rules were made by the F I A called
Group B, but by the end of the 1986 season Enzo Ferrari had made a few 288 gto evoluzione
which he was not able to use so he decided to make a road legal car from the
288 gto evoluzione and the design team at pininfarina came up with the iconic
style and design of the Ferrari F 40 .
Within just 13 months the F 40 was built, tested and debuted
at the Frankfurt motor show in 1987 and was a surprise to the world because it
was kept secret and only Enzo Ferrari and a few others knew about it.
When it was launched it was put against the Porsche 959, and
the F 40 was a power-hungry monster and was a fun car to drive.
Till date is one of
the best cars to drive and is also a very collectible car and the value of
these has sky rocketed over the last few years and will continue to go up in
pries.
Most people don’t realize that this was the last car that the
man, the myth, the legend “Enzo Ferrari” supervised and this was his legacy,
that is why it holds a very special spot in many peoples heart.
